Plant Parenthood Has a New Daddy

I’m excited to introduce you to Andrew, who will be joining the project! Andrew is a Mindfulness Teacher and Director of Programming and Psychedelics at Mindspace Wellbeing, a Board Member with the Montreal Psychedelic Society and an Assisting Trainer at Fluence (where we are also colleagues). A few other things about him (in his own words):

Andrew Rose

“I have a 12-year-old who is neurodiverse; he's very sensitive and imaginative.  My 7-year-old is pretty much his opposite; into building and breaking stuff and getting sweaty playing sports. I find both of them hilarious. Somehow they get along really well and seem to love each other a lot (when they’re not screaming at each other and fighting, of course.)

I’m a born and raised anglophone Montrealer and have been there basically all my life. I’m currently fortunate to be riding out the pandemic in rural Nova Scotia, where my wife is from and where I went to University. My interests in meditation and mindfulness started when I was 18 and got involved in Buddhism while studying Western philosophy. My interest in psychedelics go back to teenage years; the two have been informing, shaping, and re-shaping each other over the years.

After I finished my undergraduate degree I was more interested in music and the collective, ecstatic expression of it, and the scene in Montreal at the time was blowing up. I was a DJ and had a music podcast back in 2005-2008 way before podcasting was cool, and then spent almost 10 years helping run an indie label in Montreal. That was a fun time but as I had kids it became less and less appealing, and I became increasingly interested in the clinical applications of mindfulness, non-ordinary states of consciousness and healing. Eventually that led me to working with Mindspace where I’ve taken over programming our groups like MBSR, and have helped develop our psychedelics program.”

So…what’s next for Plant Parenthood?

First up, we’ll be communicating with you a bit more often about our events and new content. We’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline, including discussions with parents and kids together about how their family approached psychedelics and a series on how kids disclosed to their parents about their psychedelic use. We’ll also be launching a Facebook page where we hope you’ll join us for more lively discussions. And finally, we’ll be continuing to build more opportunities for connection, both virtually and in person.

We’re happy to have you here as we grow our project and our community and, as always, grateful for your participation and support!
