Talking to Teens About Drugs - A Plant Parenthood Webinar

For those of us raised in the DARE era, conversations about drugs were at best, eye-roll inducing, and at worst, fear-mongering propaganda.. As we move towards greater access to psychedelic substances, we can—and need—to do better. Fact-based, harm reduction-informed drug education must be a part of the psychedelic expansion.

In this webinar Plant Parenthood talks with Rhana Hashemi, founder of ‘Know Drugs.’ Their mission is to advance engaging, empowering and honest discussions about the realities of drug use among youth. Her comprehensive drug education and harm reduction programs successfully reach thousands of students each year. We’ll ask how to get these dialogues going (if you haven’t already started) and how to keep them going. We’ll hear about drug education in the school systems and what we can do to advocate for change.

Rhana Hashemi is a Bay Area-based drug educator known as the ‘Drug Lady’, a national expert in youth overdose prevention and harm reduction, and a PhD student in Social Psychology at Stanford. She founded and leads an educational organization called ‘Know Drugs’ to advance engaging, empowering, and honest discussions about the realities of drug use in schools. Her comprehensive drug education and harm reduction programs successfully reach thousands of students each year, and has been featured by major news outlets such as the NY Times, TIMES Magazine, and NBC’s Today Show. In addition to advising school and local governments on integrating harm reduction into their programs and policy, she is conducting social psychological research at Stanford on the relationships young people form with drugs and the ‘ordinary magic’ of adult-child connections to prevent misuse and addiction. Rhana holds a M.S in Community Health Prevention Research from Stanford School of Medicine and a B.A in Social Welfare with honors from UC Berkeley.
